You Gotta Be Kidding Me!

So I get this letter in the mail that says on or about 8/3/09 I "failed to stop at a red light" These are these Automated Red Light Enforcement cameras we have here around the DFW Metroplex. I thought that, "Well, maybe the light was yellow and I sped on through." I could live with that. Well, I go online to pay the 75.00 dollar ticket and see that they have video of my "offense" I watched it and couldn't believe what I saw. I made a right turn on the red light without stopping. I bet the truck behind me got a ticket too. 150 bucks for no work isn't that bad of a deal. Maybe I should get an Automated Wedding Video Enforcement Camera. At least I'd be home on the weekends.

Big School: Here We Come...Ready or Not!

So tomorrow is the day...that's right we teachers have to work once again. Hannah and Andrew will be starting their year at the DC tomorrow. Hannah is SUPER excited to be in the 4's. "Mommy, am I a tall 4 yet?" is ALL I have heard all summer. I don't have the heart to tell her that VERTICAL is NOT her strength!

Anyway, we went to Meet the Teacher on FRI. Hannah was glad to see that Emmy and Logan would be at her table. She can't wait. She promised me NO reds this year. "Mommy, last year I got 4 greens and ONE red." Um...her memory is not her strong point either!

Andrew...well, we met his teacher. Good thing is that it is Hannah's teacher from the 3's class. They moved her down for the year. She already knows how BUSY our little man is and she is ready. He just played and played and played. I had to PULL him out of there. He is ready!!!!

No, he hasn't napped on a big boy bed yet, but he doesn't need his cup anymore and he does have a backpack. What else do you need?

Here's to a great year!!! One free of reds, swine flu, and ear infections! Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

One WILD Day!

As summer quickly draws to an end, I am making a MAD dash to my to-do list. It seems ALL of the things that I had planned for us, hasn't happened (even though we have been busy). One of them was to do a MAJOR update on our blog. I know..it has been a LONG time. Well, that hasn't happened yet so I moved on to the fun side of our list.

So in attempts to knock off a few more fun things off of our list, I decided it was time for a family day. With the heat blazing down on us, whatever we do MUST be inside these days. So where else to go? The mall...Grapevine Mills to be exact with lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.

The last time we took Hannah she was around Andrew's age. We went w/ K and Angie and Walter. She wasn't thrilled w/ all of the animal noises one bit. This time she was ready to go and even remembered when we took K.

Andrew just wants to go ANYWHERE. "Shoes, please." So he was game. However, when we got there, it was another story. He HATED the elephants. He sat quietly on the daddy's lap while Hannah and I walked around. "Elephants scare me momma."

Through the whole lunch, he was very scared when any of the animals started to move and make noise. Thankfully, the waterfall was drowning out his cries.

Enter the balloon man: He made Hannah a pink unicorn and Andrew this way cool airplane with a handle. They LOVED them! He saved the day! We left the cafe and walked around the mall w/ our balloon animals. Everyone loved the plane. It was pretty cool! Everyone was happy...until Andrew bit a hole in his handle and popped it...then there was crying. Oh, well...that is something we do every day, so no big deal!

Hopefully, with any luck, we will continue to update some passed events. We are getting TONS of requests (AKA...complaints) about the lack of news feeds coming out. We have been having server issues (AKA: just being lazy!). Hoping

Fun at the beach 2009

We took a trip down to Corpus Christi with Uncle Hank & Aunt Lizzy. The beach is always a good time and this year was no exception. We went to the aquarium and visited the Original Whataburger and took the "kissing" photo with its founder. One evening we went to a local ice cream shop, it was a big hit with Andrew.

Family Reunion 2009

We had the Balk side of the family's reunion in Quitman, TX at Uncle Marty's house. It's always fun there because they have a pool and lots of kids. We also went Striper fishing this year and had a great fireworks display Saturday nite and huge fish fry on Sunday afternoon.

Summer Camp 2009

I didn't take the camera to summer camp, so we had to take all the photos when we got back. Since Nate & Brandon were in town, photo ops at the gazebo in downtown Stroud ensued.

Swimming Lessons

Even though I've taught swimming lessons, we thought it would be best for the kids to get some from someone else. (Maybe they would listen to them better) We were only half right. Hannah seemed to get a lot out of it. From working on her kicks to putting her face into the water, Hannah did it all. Andrew on the other hand, just played...

I can't even think of a title for this.

Seriously...

Let's Go Feed The Ducks

Just West of downtown Fort Worth, they have a really nice duck pond. We just needed to get out of the house, so we took a little trip there. I think the ducks are spoiled, because they weren't that interested in our bread. At least there were pigeons around for Andrew to chase. I bet if he could swim, he would have chased the ducks.

Andrew's First Stitches (But 2nd time to the ER)

I'm pretty sure with his personality this wont be our last trip to the ER. On Daddy's watch, Andrew tried to jump from dining room chair to dining room chair. He didn't make it and the side of the wooden chair caught him right above his eye.

Nothing bleeds like the head, and there was blood everywhere. He cried most of the way to the Care Now clinic, but when we got there he was climbing all over the furniture like nothing had ever happened.

They call us back and in comes Stone Cold Steve Austin in smocks. I'm not kidding. This guy was HUGE and ripping out of his smocks. He was bald and had tribal tattoos from his wrist, up his arms on his neck and on to his bald head. I'm pretty sure no one would say anything, because he did look just like Stone Cold Steve Austin. He was really nice and said he had a little boy who was two also. I have never seen Andrew lie so still. He let them poke and clean out his cut. It was a DEEP cut. On the wall they had this backboard looking restraining device that they were getting ready to get out, but Andrew didn't need it. (Someone did come in and get it for another patient)

The cut didn't require stitches, only Dermabond. They put the glue on and after a few weeks it peeled itself off. I think it healed up nicely.
